that could. That's the story that came to mind numerous times during my 2.5 hour bike ride with four members of the team. Why oh why did i get into this sport? cuz it's fun. Even on flat ground they were pulling away from me. I've got a long way to go.
We went up one of the main hills on Wildcat in Tilden Park. They launched up the long winding gradual climb and I fell back and panted my way up to them. When I finally reached the top, they had been sitting for what seemed like 5 minutes or so (an eternity in biking), just engaging in light conversation. I'm in shape, really... just not in "2-3 hours of intense activity" shape. I'm in 45 minutes of exercise shape. That's what normal people do, that's what Shape magazine says I should do. Oh well, no excuses, cycling is a whole different animal.
